Litter and Covid-19

Covid-19 has created many problems for the Trust, including litter – as never before.  It’s a nationwide problem. Blackbirds Moor has been a very obvious honeypot. Staff and many volunteers are putting in a terrific effort on everyone’s behalf, including Trust Ranger Jane Ahern, who has newly joined us for the summer. Councillor William Allen, too, has stimulated a new group of volunteers who, on a very informal and friendly basis, are visiting Blackbirds Moor, not so much to litter pick but to encourage all of our visitors to clear up their own litter – and preferably take it home.

Our friends at the Canal and River Trust likewise have recently launched a scheme to try and reduce the amount of plastic debris in our Canals and Waterways. More info on the scheme can be found here.

These are great contributions. Thank you to everyone participating.
