First Water Vole spotted at Durrants Lake!

Thanks to a Boxmoor and District Angling Club member this is the first image of one of the Water Voles released at Durrants Lake Apsley by the Box Moor Trust.

Many fishermen remember these wonderful little mammals from the last sightings 40 years ago or more before Mink predation saw them disappear from most of Hertfordshire. They are happy to ‘adopt’ these voles and watch over them. The Trust hopes that the voles will breed in safety at fishing lakes along the v>alley and then spread in all directions along the canal and rivers to breed with the offspring from last years introduction.

We hope to receive many more images in future months.
