Graham French

Candidate Name: Graham French

Brief description:
Living in Boxmoor since 1998, I enjoy walking my dogs across Trust land every day. I am passionate about the countryside and preserving our rights of way.

Summary description:
Brought up in Dunstable, I regularly traveled by bus with my mum to shop in Hemel, and later my friends and I would cycle here and fish the canal.

From 1975 to 2013 I served as a Police Officer with the Metropolitan Police, engaged in a variety of roles across London and the UK.

In 1998 I moved to Boxmoor, where I continue to live with my wife and our 3 Hungarian Vizslas, with whom we walk across the Trust’s land every day. It’s here that I meet and speak to lots of people, listening to their thoughts on issues about the Trust that affect us all.

Manifesto if elected:
In 1594, what is now Box Moor Trust was conceived. Local residents were facing a crisis, an outbreak of the plague causing several deaths. Then, the gifted land was used for grazing livestock and fishing in the two rivers, to put food on plates.

We now face our own crisis, Covid-19, and Box Moor Trust land is proving its continued value to local residents, as a place to get daily exercise, enjoying the peace and quiet of the countryside.

From 1975 to 2013 I served as a Police Officer with the Meotropolitan Police, engaged in a variety of roles across London and the UK.

I have dealt with people in crisis on a personal level, both as a manager and as a police officer. The latter sometimes meant dealing with whole communities facing their own challenges. What did all this teach me? Listening is more important than talking. Living in Boxmoor and walking my dogs every day, I meet and speak to lots of people listening to their thoughts on issues about the Trust that affect us all.

Box Moor Trust land belongs to no one person. We are fortunate to have such a richly diverse area of countryside close to the town, freely accessible to everyone from all our communities. It is our land, managed and run for our benefit. If elected as trustee I will use my experience and knowledge to ensure that it remains just so. Keeping it unspoiled and safeguarding it for your and future generations.
