Weβre thrilled to announce that one of Britainβs rarest fungi β the Vaulted Earthstar (Geastrum britannicum) β has been spotted right here on the Estate!
π What makes this discovery so special?
β¨ Only discovered in 2015
β¨ Originally thought to be unique to Britain, now recorded in a few parts of Europe
β¨ Still extremely rare β a fantastic find for our county!
These unusual fungi typically grow beneath yew trees, and weβre lucky enough to have two fruiting bodies at the base of one of our large yews. Who knowsβ¦ there may be more hidden across the Estate!
Keep your eyes peeled. If you think youβve spotted a Vaulted Earthstar, weβd love to hear from you!
